FIRST AVENUE WEEKLY PRESS RELEASE: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2019
JUST ANNOUNCED:
Since his major label debut, the groundbreaking Salesmen and Racists, Ike Reilly has been making punk/folk/blues-influenced rock ’n’ roll records that lean heavily on stories of outsiders that insinuate a crack in the American dream. Reilly’s band, The Assassination, has been called one of the best live bands in America, and the body of recorded work they’ve turned out has been rebellious, wholly original, and critically acclaimed. The Ike Reilly Assassination perform at First Avenue on November 27 with Southside Desire, The Violet Nines, and Red Daughters.
After an incredible performance during the Palace Theatre’s opening weekend in 2017, The Jayhawks return to the very same stage on Saturday, December 21. The group was definitely swimming against the tide when they emerged from a crowded scene in 1985. Over the course of three decades, 10 albums, countless memorable live shows, the beloved band soars to heights few ever achieve while winning the hearts and minds of numerous critics, fans, and peers in the process.
Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer with over 25 years in comedy. Gulman’s latest HBO special, The Great Depresh, is his most ambitious work yet—a tour de force look at mental illness, equal parts captivating and inspiring. Gary Gulman’s Peace of Mind tour stops by St Paul’s Fitzgerald Theater on March 27, 2020.
FEATURED SHOW:
“Sam Fender is the friend we all wish we had in our lives, but at the same time the burgeoning rock hero of his generation. He writes songs that truly connect—delving deep into youth suicide rates, alcoholism, domestic violence, and the many challenges faced by today’s young people,” says Tone Deaf of the British newcomer. Sam Fender—Hypersonic Missiles North America Tour is at the Fine Line with Noël Wells on October 8.
