FIRST AVENUE WEEKLY PRESS RELEASE: Tuesday, June 25th, 2019
JUST ANNOUNCED:
Fresh off the release of his latest album, ZUU, South Florida rapper Denzel Curry returns to the Mainroom on Thursday, August 15. Pitchfork gave the album an 8.3, saying the rapper “puts on for his city and delivers the best, most dynamic, and altogether hardest album of his career.” Denzel meditates on the consequences of living the fast life, masterfully bouncing between melodic moments and combative bars, as he refuses to fall victim to the violence that plagued his childhood in Miami.
As the frontwoman and guitarist for Alabama Shakes, Brittany Howard has become one of music’s most celebrated figures. In addition to today’s announcement of her debut solo album, Jaime, Howard has scheduled dates for an accompanying tour, including a stop at the Palace Theatre on Thursday, September 19. While Howard admits it was daunting, stepping out alone from her work with Alabama Shakes and revealing so much of herself, it was a necessary step. “I turned 30 and I was like, ‘What do I want the rest of my life to look like?’” she recalls. “Do I want to play the same songs until I’m 50 and then retire, or do I do something that’s scarier for me? Do I want people to understand me and know me, do I want to tell them my story?”
Blackberry Smoke is in the midst of a landmark year following the release of their new album, Find a Light. The album debuted as the best-selling Country and Americana/Folk album in the country, entered at #3 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and #2 on the Billboard Americana/Folk Albums chart. NPR Music praises, “Find a Light pushes the envelope while providing that famous Blackberry Smoke autonomy, delivered with soulful vocals, haunting harmonies and kick ass songs.” Catch them at the Palace Theatre with The Record Company on Thursday, September 26.
