FIRST AVENUE WEEKLY PRESS RELEASE: Tuesday, July 2, 2019
JUST ANNOUNCED:
Beat the heat at Flip Phone XXL: Short Shorts in the Mainroom on Friday, August 2. Throw on your tiniest trousers and dance the night away to your favorite forgotten pop, hip hop, and R&B hits. With a special performance by the “sultry queen of New York” Scarlet Envy (a fan favorite from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11), this is sure to be one of the best parties of the summer.
Brooklyn-based San Fermin releases their first taste of new music since 2017–a single about the ongoing frustration of dating titled “The Hunger.” “I think there’s something heroic in the process of getting your hopes up time and again,” said frontman Ellis Ludwig-Leone of his inspiration for the song. “Trying to project confidence while dealing with disappointment and insecurity is an experience I think a lot of people can relate to." The chamber pop group returns to the Twin Cities with a show at the Fine Line on Saturday, October 26.
“Masana” is a fictional word created by Kikagaku Moyo to express a Utopian feeling; an existence where everything can interact harmoniously and offer inspiration and understanding. Their fourth album, Masana Temples, radiates this vision, architecting a vibrating world that isn’t confined to the known limits of what came before it. Of the band’s recent Bonnaroo set, Paste Magazine says “their mercurial sound is arguably more bewitching in a live setting, and the group performed as if they were all extensions of the same being.” The psychedelic experience that is Kikagaku Moyo takes over the Turf Club on Friday, November 22 with Minami Deutsch.
