FIRST AVENUE WEEKLY PRESS RELEASE
JUST ANNOUNCED:
Flip Phone XXL: Pride is returning to First Avenue on Saturday, June 22 for an epic night featuring two dance floors in the Mainroom and Entry. The night stars Manila Luzon, with additional performances by Domita DeBaun Sanchez, Kat Sass, Nocturna Lee Mission, and more.
Formed in Los Angeles in late 2016, The Marías are the psychedelic-soul lovechild of LA native, Josh Conway and Puerto Rican-bred, Atlanta-raised María. A smooth rendezvous of jazz percussion, hypnotic guitar riffs, smoke-velvet vocals and nostalgic horn solos, there’s something undeniably sensual in the group’s dreamlike fusion of jazz, psychedelia, funk and lounge. The Marías return to Minneapolis for a show at the Fine Line on Saturday, July 27.
“Our band turns twenty years old this year and to celebrate we're going to be playing some shows this coming Fall. We hope to see some of you out there. And thanks so much for sticking with us for so long. We truly appreciate it.” - Explosions in the Sky
Hailing from the sultry metropolitan landscape of Austin, Texas, Explosions in the Sky play some of the most passionate, powerful instrumental music today. See them at the Palace Theatre on Saturday, October 19.
FEATURED SHOW:
Jon Anderson is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable voices in progressive rock as the lead vocalist and creative force behind Yes. Anderson was the author and a major creative influence behind the ground-breaking album “Fragile” as well as the series of epic, complex pieces such as “Awaken”, “Gates of Delirium” and especially “Close to the Edge” which were central to the band's success.
Never one to stand still musically, he recently released an album he started 28 years ago, called “1000 Hands,” a reference to the fact that numerous guest musicians perform on the album, including Ian Anderson, Billy Cobham, Jean Luc Ponty, Chick Corea, and more.
See Jon Anderson of Yes at the Fitzgerald Theater on Saturday, April 20.
