Oct. 1, 2019 (MINNEAPOLIS) Fadi Fadhil has been named the City’s new chief information officer. He joins the City of Minneapolis after serving as the chief information officer for Minneapolis Public Schools.

As CIO, Fadhil will oversee the City’s Information Technology Department, which helps City departments leverage technology to improve how they operate and provide services to residents and businesses. The Information Technology Department serves all City departments with a full-time staff of more than 3,900. He will start his new position Nov. 4.

“Fadi’s vision for the public sector’s role in the ever-changing field of technology and his commitment to public service impressed all of us at the City who participated in the search process. We are excited for his arrival,” said Mark Ruff, the City’s interim city coordinator and chief financial officer.

“I am thrilled to join the City of Minneapolis and honored to serve in this role,” Fadhil said. “As a public servant at heart, I look forward to working together to achieve an elegant vision of technology worthy of the stature of Minneapolis as an inclusive world-class smart city.”

As Minneapolis Public Schools CIO, he oversees the Information Technology Division that serves the technology needs of approximately 7,000 staff, 36,000 students and 100 schools and programs.

In addition to his leadership role with Minneapolis Public Schools, he has served as technology services manager at St. Paul Public Schools and a technology consultant and liaison/interpreter for the U.S. Army. He speaks four languages, has a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a master’s degree in computer networks and communication and is a graduate of MIT’s executive program.
