THE COWLES CENTER PRESENTS KEIGWIN + COMPANY New York City Modern Dance Company makes Minnesota Debu
Minneapolis, Minn. May 9, 2012 The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts is thrilled to present New York Citys KEIGWIN + COMPANY as its final dance presentation of the inaugural season. Known for provocative, witty, and engaging dances, KEIGWIN + COMPANY will share a program that includes Megalopolis (2009), a fun and serious blend of formalism and pop performed to a mash-up of music by Steve Reich and M.I.A, the acclaimed and fashion-inspired Runaway (2008), and audience favorite Mattress Suite (2004), a compilation of six short dances set to music from opera to pop, exploring the various facets of human sexuality and the yearning for love. K+C will also present a preview of a brand-new work, 12 Chairs, which uses the game musical chairs as an inspirational launching point. The musical score combines sounds of marching bands and drum cores with a multi-layered original electronic composition that includes synthesizers and voice. 12 Chairs will premiere at The Joyce Theater in June 2012.
Founded in 2003, New York City based KEIGWIN + COMPANY bridges the gap between artistry and entertainment, creating dances that are accessible and engaging to broad audiences. KEIGWIN + COMPANY engages national and international audiences and invigorates diverse communities with a refreshing vision of dance that embodies a theatrical sensibility of wit, style and heart. Performances will be held June 1st and 2nd at 8pm in The Goodale Theater. Tickets are $32 plus fees for both performances and can be purchased at www.thecowlescenter.org, in person at The Cowles Center box office or over the phone at 612.206.3600.
