THE COWLES CENTER ANNOUNCES SECOND SEASON Featuring Local, National and International Performers
Minneapolis, Minn. April 5, 2012 The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts is pleased to announce its 2012-13 performance season, featuring a diversity of dance as well as more varied performing arts groups. The second season in The Goodale Theater begins on September 15, 2012 with German a cappella group vocaldente, first place winners of the 2008 Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival in San Francisco. Other highlights include the return of three favorite companies from the inaugural season - James Sewell Ballet, Zenon Dance Company and Minnesota Dance Theatre. MDTs holiday classic Loyce Houltons Nutcracker Fantasy, returns with an extended performance schedule following 2011 sold-out run. Internationally known dance/illusionist company, MOMIX, under the direction of Moses Pendleton will present three performances in April and the season concludes with local company Black Label Movement June 30, 2013.
The Cowles Centers inaugural season was lauded by the Star Tribune as a whos who of Twin Cities dance and that continues into season two with performances by Ragamala Dance, Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre, Shapiro & Smith Dance, B-Boy J-Sun, Mathew Janczewskis ARENA DANCES and many others that were a part of the inaugural season. New performers to The Cowles Center include Saint Paul City Ballet, Mu Performing Arts, Minnesota Concert Opera, Off-Leash Area, Contempo Physical Dance, and international Bharatanatyam dancer Alarmél Valli from India. In addition, The Cowles Center will host two award ceremony events; First Peoples Fund Community Spirit Awards and the SAGE Awards for Dance. The Cowles Center is also working with companies to create more audience engagement with post-show talk back sessions and a full schedule of student matinees for Minnesota schools.
