The Cowles Center announces 2014-2015 season
THE COWLES CENTER ANNOUNCES 2014-15 SEASON
A dynamic line-up of dance, music, and theater
Minneapolis, Minn. July 18, 14 The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts is pleased to announce its 2014-15 performance season, featuring a dynamic line-up of dance companies, vocal performers and theatre. The fourth season will kick-off with a weekend-long Gala celebration featuring Parsons Dance from New York City, performing Friday and Saturday. The festivities on Friday, September 5, begin with a wine and appetizer reception, performance, and The Cowles Centers Annual Dance Party. Saturday, September 6 will include a cocktail reception, dinner, live auction, program, and performance in the Goodale Theater.
The following weekend the Groundbreaker Battle returns to The Cowles Center. This day long celebration of Hip-Hop artistry will feature performances by Ill Chemistry, Beat Box workshops by Carnage the Executioner, and the best crews in Minnesota battling for a 1st place trophy and prize money. New to The Cowles Center this season is the Steeles Family Concert, Lightwire Theater from Americas Got Talent; Yesterday Once More, produced by Grammy nominated musician Jim Brickman; SHAPESHIFT a hip-hop storytelling dance company; comedian Shed G, and Ananya Dance Theatre.
Cantus Vocal Ensemble will perform a fall and spring concert, in addition to returning in June of 2015 with their wildly popular Covers concerts; and Minnesota Concert Opera presents a new work about legendary opera singer Maria Callas starring coloratura soprano Andrea Lynn Cianflone.
The fourth season of dance at The Cowles Center will welcome back companies from the past three seasons. James Sewell Ballet, and Zenon Dance Company will present fall and spring shows. Other returning companies include Threads Dance Project, Contempo Physical Dance, Beyond Ballroom Dance Company, Flying Foot Forum, Black Label Movement, Shapiro & Smith Dance, Minnesota Dance Theatre, TU Dance, Curio Dance: Drop the Mic!, and Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre. Also returning from previous seasons are ARENA Dance, Saint Paul City Ballet, and Katha Dance Theatre.
Also new to 2014/15 season is Momentum: New Dance Works Festival. In partnership with The Walker Art Center and the Southern Theater, this festival showcases new works by emerging choreographers.
Not to be forgotten Masons Restaurant and Barre is located on the first floor of The Cowles Center. This full-service restaurant and bar, is open for pre-performance dining, as well as lunch service, and catering.
The Cowles Center will again be home to the SAGE Awards for Dance and the First Peoples Funds Community Spirit Awards in October.
The Cowles Center continues to work with various companies to deepen audience engagement with a post-show talk back series and presents a full schedule of student matinees for Minnesota schools.
Tickets for the 2014/15 season are now on sale through The Cowles Center box office at 612.206.3600 and online at www.thecowlescenter.org. Single ticket prices range from $10 to $36 and discounts are available for members of The Cowles Club. The Cowles Club is a new membership program starting this fall and for $50 a member receives the following benefits:
- 20% off all tickets purchased.
- Two free guest passes during the 2014/15 season.
- 10% discount at Masons Restaurant.
- Early ticket buying to all events at The Cowles.
- $5 parking to all events at The Cowles.
- $1 off adult beverages at U.S. Bank Atriums concession.
