This weekend-long event features over 250 artists working in nearly every medium of fine art and fine craft. A special exhibit of contemporary Cuban art, interactive art activities, live music, art demonstrations, poetry, and more will take place over the course of the weekend.
“Resilencias, de otra Cuba!” curated by Cuban artist Ciro Quintana takes place in the Third Floor Gallery (#332). On display will be a wide range of contemporary Cuban art by more than a dozen internationally recognized and collected Cuban artists. Some of the works of art represent the struggle they have faced, while others communicate freedom, idealism, whimsy and pop. Four of the artists will be present throughout the weekend.
Vincent Moniz, Jr. (NuEta), Urban Indian and reigning Individual World Poetry Slam, Indigenous Poetry Slam Champion will present his poetry responses to the artwork of Maggie Thompson (Fond Du Lac Ojibwe). Thompson, a 2013 graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), is a textile artist and designer who derives her inspiration from the history of her Ojibwe heritage, as well as themes and subject matter of the broader Native American experience. She pushes the viewer’s traditional understanding of textiles by incorporating photographs, beer caps and 3-D printed objects. Both Thompson and Moniz currently have work on exhibit at the MIA.
Good Space Murals will be on hand Saturday, November 7th from 12:00-6:00 pm to lead a community-made and inspired mini mural to be installed at the Northrup King Building. Visitors to Art Attack will be able to put on an apron and participate in the painting of this mural. This activity will be part of TPT’s MN Original viewing area and interactive art activities on the second floor (#248).
The weekend will be full of art demonstrations in the artist’s studios including glassblowing, large scale weaving, coaster die-cutting, pottery, painting and more.
Live music and food trucks round out this free event.
Free parking is also provided.
