Alex Grant Signs One-year Wild Contract
MINNESOTA WILD AGREES TO TERMS WITH DEFENSEMAN ALEX GRANT
ON A ONE-YEAR CONTRACT
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has agreed to terms with free-agent defenseman Alex Grant on a one-year, two-way contract ($700,000/$300,000).
Grant, 28 (1/20/89), tallied 49 points (17-32=49) including six power-play goals and 36 penalty minutes (PIM) in 70 games with the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL) last season. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound native of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, ranked second amongst AHL defensemen in goals, T-5th in scoring and ninth in shots in goal with 181. Grant tallied 42 points (11-31=42) in 69 games with Springfield (AHL) in 2015-16 and ranked T-8th amongst AHL defensemen in scoring and T-9th in goals. He also skated in five NHL contests with Arizona. Grant has recorded 223 points (60-163=223), 376 PIM and 32 power-play goals in 393 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre Scranton, Binghamton, Norfolk, Springfield and Providence (2009-17). He has also notched 19 points (6-13=19) in 48 career Calder Cup playoff matches.
Grant has collected two goals in seven career NHL games with Anaheim and Arizona. He scored a goal in his NHL debut on Nov. 30, 2013 at San Jose and tallied a goal in his second career NHL contest against Minnesota on Dec. 11, 2013. Grant was originally selected by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
