PIEOWA: A PIECE OF AMERICA

“Pieowa: A Piece of America,” Beth M. Howard’s award-winning documentary about the popularity of pie will be showing at the Riverview Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Thursday, May 14 at 7:15 p.m. The screening, presented by A Peace of My Mind’s “Creative Changemakers” series, will also feature a presentation before the film of portraits from John Noltner’s “I Am Human” exhibit.
“Pieowa” celebrates the myriad ways pie is baked into Iowa's—and America's—cultural fabric, from church ladies to old diners, the competitions of the Iowa State Fair, community service projects, Thanksgiving, and Iowa’s annual 500-mile RAGBRAI bike ride. Actor/comedian Tom Arnold, NPR chief economics reporter Scott Horsley, and Better Homes and Gardens food editor Jan Miller appear alongside everyday people from ages 5 to 97. The Los Angeles Times calls Pieowa “a soulful slice of Americana.” Named the “the taste-good, feel-good film of the year” by Little Village magazine, “Pieowa reminds us that what unites us is stronger than what divides us” and how something as simple as sharing a pie can make the world a better place. The run time of the film is 76 minutes.
Following the film, John Noltner will moderate a Q&A with Howard and free pie will be served. Howard, who is also an author, will be signing books. She is the author “Making Piece: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Pie,” the cookbook “Ms. American Pie,” among other titles. Moviegoers are welcome to bring a pie to share, though it’s not required.
