March Fadness: Spring Shopping Second Round

The weather is heating up (at the time of this writing, who knows what it could be tomorrow) and so is this bracket as we determine THE spring fashion item of Minneapolis. You all voted from the round of 16 and now we’re down to 8 men’s and women’s spring fashion items. You can see that round and all the items here, but who wants to do that? Those things lost. THESE items (below) are what the people crave! So take a look and vote on what should make it to the final four items.

SEE WHO MOVED ON HERE.

MEN’S BRACKET WOMEN’S BRACKET

WOMEN'S BRACKET

THE “OH GURRRL” REGION

Spring Loafers(1) Spring Loafers vs (8) Oversized Blazer

Spring loafers move on in a surprisingly close matchup, while the oversized blazer takes down the underdog favorite white capri pants. But where will your allegiances lie now? The trendy top or the favorite footwear?

Winner: Oversized Blazer

White Sneaker(5) White Sneaker vs (13) Eyelet Tea Dress

The shoes seem to be the trend, as the white sneaker moves on. But it faces an upset special in the eyelet tea dress, which took down the heavily-favored denim jacket. Can it pull off another upset, or will the shoes rain supreme?

Winner: Eyelet Tea Dress

THE “CLASSY CLOSET” REGION

Sunglasses(6) Mirrored Sunglasses vs (3) Washed-Out Cropped Jean

When the sun comes out, it means the need to block it out as fashionably as possible, which meant the mirrored sunglasses moved on. It has the tough task of going up against the only bottoms of the round with the washed-out cropped jean. Who will move on?

Winner: Washed-Out Cropped Jean

(15) Striped T-Shirt (10) Spring ScarfSpring Scarf

WHAT AN UPSET! With the biggest shock of the first round, the 15 seeded striped t-shirt takes down the white tank. Can it continue the Cinderella run against the always-fashionable spring scarf? You decide.

Winner: Spring Scarf

MEN'S BRACKET

THE RON BURGUNDY “I LOOK GOOD…I MEAN REAL GOOD” REGION

Flat Front Pant(1) Flat-Front Shorts vs (8) Plaid Shorts

It's a shorts-off!....That was poorly phrased, please keep your shorts on. But who moves on in this pseudo-pants showdown? A battle of solid, bright colors vs the crazy patterns. Cast your vote.

Winner: Flat-Front Shorts

White Pant(5) White Pant vs (4) Polo Shirt

Ladies and gentlemen, we had a tie! The white pant had the same amount of votes and the striped tank, so we had a tiebreaker. It was very scientific and difficult to explain, but I'll try: I just chose one. What are my fashion credentials? One time someone pointed to my shirt and said, "Hey, that's a shirt." So there's that. So, the white pant will go up against the very classy and trendy polo shirt. Who moves on?

Winner: Polo Shirt

THE DEREK ZOOLANDER “BLUE STEEL” REGION

(14) Aviators (11) Leather Flip-FlopsLeather Flip Flops

What a rout! And what a matchup! Both of these pieces were underdogs! The leather flip flops destroyed the patterned tank with 100% of the votes, while the aviators made quick work of the solid bright v-neck. Whose dream stays alive with a next round appearance? You decide.

Winner: Aviators

Button Plaid Shirt(7) Button Plaid Shirt vs (2) Boat Shoes

The last matchup is certainly one of the hardest. On one side, you've got the most-trendy style right now in the button plaid shirt. But, can it hold up against the time-tested and always-reliable spring staple that IS the boat shoe? Only you can make that call.

Winner: Button Plaid Shirt

Minneapolis: The Only City Left in America

That’s it. Game over. Every other city in America can shut down their tourism areas now. Their efforts in 2013 will only prove to be futile.

Why? Because Travel + Leisure’s Top Destinations of 2013 only had one city in the good ol’ US of A in it.

That city? Minneapolis.

That’s right. Minneapolis was the lone American city to grace the list put together by Travel and Leisure of hot destinations to visit in 2013. Out of allllll the cities in the United States (San Francisco, Miami, New York, Austin…Boise?), Minneapolis topped the charts as THE place to visit in America.

Maybe it was because of our awesome attractions. Maybe it was because of our arts scene. Maybe it was our numerous sports teams. Or maybe it was our stylish rocking of fedoras and our forced, in-depth knowledge of the movie Fargo that won them over.

Nope. Turns out that our very progressive and robust food scene took the cake (pun absolutely intended).

Not only is the stomach the quickest way to the heart, but it’s apparently the quickest way to get on really prestigious lists. The magazine called Minneapolis “an unexpected foodie mecca in the American heartland.”

Just to give you an idea of what this list looked like, cities such as Basilicata, Nepal, Zambia and Amsterdam were ranked right there with Minneapolis.

So pack your bags and come on down to the City by Nature, a.k.a. America’s City (we’re working on the trademark). There’s a lot to do in every season, and you’re sure to always find something that strikes a chord that makes a destination unforgettable.
