#6 of 52 Must See Things in Minneapolis.
An eclectic and vibrant area, Uptown is a hot spot for all things entertainment. Just a few blocks south of downtown on Hennepin Avenue lies a mecca of restaurants, bars and shopping. From cultural cuisine to healthy, modern fare, Uptown has a variety of incredible restaurants. Head over to Barbette for French-inspired cooking, an amazing wine list and a fantastic happy hour. Chino Latino offers Asian and Latin dishes with a modern twist. Who doesn’t love tacos, sushi, curry and plantain nachos all in one place? If you’re looking to stick to your diet but you don’t want to miss out on flavor, try Agra Culture. With plates like the Uptown Paleo Plate, the Late Harvest Bowl, and a number of veggie-packed salads, there is no skimping on taste or portion size. For some activity with your meal, try Bryant Lake Bowl. Experience its retro bowling lanes and eat while you play!
Of course, we can’t forget about the rooftops! As it gets warmer, the rooftops in Uptown are gathering spots for brunch or a night out on the town. Try Stella’s Fish Café for fresh seafood dishes and a variety of drinks. Grab a table on the rooftop during the day, or embrace the heated bar area at night. Across the street you’ll find Libertine, perfect for any meal (though we love their brunch!) and with a fun and trendy nightlife scene. The first level has eclectic décor and plenty of tables, plus a lounge area. Or, head up to the rooftop for drinks and an amazing view.
For more activity, check out Calhoun Square, a shopping and entertainment center with more than 25 stores, restaurants, coffee shops, salons and even a gym. While you’re there, visit ComedySportz, an improv venue with weekly shows. Just down the block is Uptown Theater, one of the oldest theaters in Minneapolis. They specialize in independent and foreign films, and also have a variety of food options as well as a full-service bar. Enjoy your food and beverage while watching the movie!
Uptown is also known for their diverse art scene. Home to the annual Uptown Art Fair, this area contains a number of unique murals that represent Minneapolis. Be sure to take a look at the recently added Prince mural on 26th Street and Hennepin Avenue.
Head just a few blocks west and find the Chain of Lakes, consisting of Cedar Lake, Lake Calhoun, Lake of the Isles, Lake Harriet and Brownie Lake. On sunny days, Lake Calhoun is surrounded by runners, bikers, picnickers, skaters and dog-walkers. Take the 3.4 mile walk around the lake and enjoy the scenery and stunning view of the downtown skyline.
Experience the vibe for yourself, and you’ll understand why Uptown is such a popular hang-out spot every day of the week.
