Open Streets Nicollet takes place Sunday, Sept. 22
Sept. 20, 2019 (MINNEAPOLIS) Open Streets Nicollet returns Sunday, Sept. 22 for its sixth year and marks the end of the 2019 Open Streets season.
Open Streets events are fun opportunities to enjoy the street in a car-free environment, make new connections and learn about neighborhood businesses and organizations. Nicollet between West Lake Street and 46th Street will be closed to motorized traffic from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event will showcase the street’s many popular restaurants and attractions, including the Kingfield Farmers Market at 43rd and Nicollet. A range of activities are planned as well, including live music and bike polo.
The City of Minneapolis Public Works Department will have a booth at Nicollet and 40th Street to share information about the development of the Minneapolis Transportation Action Plan and Vision Zero Action Plan. The Transportation Action Plan will be a 10-year plan to implement the transportation vision outlined in the Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The Vision Zero Action Plan will be a three-year plan to advance the City’s commitment to ending traffic fatalities and severe injuries resulting from traffic crashes on our streets by 2027.
The City of Minneapolis and Our Streets Minneapolis are also collaborating for the second year on a social media campaign called #WeWalkMpls to highlight the stories of people who walk as a primary way to get around the city. There will be a pop-up at Nicollet and 42nd Street to participate in a photo booth for the campaign. Share your walking stories by using the hashtag #WeWalkMpls on social media.
The City of Minneapolis and Our Streets Minneapolis are seeking route ideas for the 2020 season. Applications are due Oct. 3, 2019.
