MEDIA ALERT: MNHS Historic Sites Remember Memorial Day and Kick Off Summer Season This Weekend
This weekend MNHS starts its summer sites season and commemorates Memorial Day with a slate of events, including:
Memorial Day Weekend, Historic Fort Snelling, May 26-28: Learn about the WWII-era Military Intelligence Service Language School, watch cannon firings on the parade grounds, visit an army hospital and more to explore Minnesota’ military past and present. Veterans and active military also receive free site admission to Historic Fort Snelling on Monday, May 28.
“Patriot Nations: Native Americans in Our Nation's Armed Forces” Exhibit Opening, Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post, May 25: This traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian examines the long history of Native American men and women in the military, from the Revolutionary War through today’s conflicts. The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular museum hours May 25-Sept. 3.
Memorial Day Powwow, Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading, May 28: This annual celebration honors Native veterans past and present. The museum will also explore Native film,art and music at events throughout the weekend.
