Bruce Munro: Winter Light at the Arboretum
Ticketed Night Event Showcases International Artist’s Work in
Site-Specific Installations at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
Chaska, Minn. (Oct.19, 2016) - The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum will glow after dark this winter when it hosts the stunning evening exhibition Bruce Munro: Winter Light at the Arboretum from Nov.12 through April 9, 2017.
Munro’s work has been displayed internationally, from the Guggenheim Museum in New York to Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire, UK. He will unveil three new works at the Arboretum exhibition, which is his 12th in the U.S. and the most Northern U.S. show, which is currently being installed on the Arboretum grounds.
Munro’s solo shows have attracted more than a million visitors since the first exhibition in 2012. Language, literature, science and music have greatly influenced his work.
The exhibition features five unique installations outdoors and one suspended light triad sculpture indoors. Also an exciting series of five digital animations, a show of 39 signed, limited edition prints, plus extensive artist history and exhibition background will be displayed in Reedy Gallery and MacMillan Auditorium.
The exhibition immerses visitors in a captivating experience:
- The show was created in the UK over four months before shipping to the Arboretum. It took more than 2,700 hours to design and build in the UK and over 3,200 hours to recreate on site.
- Over 70 miles of optical fiber are used in the installation; more than 98,500 component parts are in the exhibition. Many of the parts are reusable and will be used in future installations.
- Water Towers uses 7,000-plus U.S.-sourced water bottles. Minnesota Gathering uses 7,400 plus fluorescent acrylic pegs representing birds on a line. Oreum comprises 8,500 individual stems topped with turbines, evoking a mass of flowers and vegetation.
The exhibition can also be enjoyed as an extended evening experience with cocktails and appetizers at two lounges, as well as cash bars. Corporate, private and holiday events including the Munro exhibition are available. Tours will be conducted for groups of 20 or more on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and receive special pricing.
