It’s our pleasure to present Round Here, an exhibition of new paintings by Minneapolis artist, Charles Lyon. An artist and outdoorsman, Lyon has created work across the country for decades; his career has taken him from an artist residency at Badlands National Park in 2005, to receiving a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant in 2009, to returning west for a residency at Brush Creek Ranch in Wyoming in 2018. Known in the Twin Cities for his drawings and paintings of the Minnesota landscape, Lyon’s new work references the greenery of Midwest spring, summer, and fall. Inspired by local neighborhoods and close observation, these paintings explore Minnesota’s shifting seasonal palette. The work references variable moments of transition when yellows, oranges, and reds emerge and overlap with lingering greens. The result is a series of studies in color, light, and the fleeting natural wonders found close to home.
Running concurrently to Round Here will be Annemarie’s Vision, an exhibition of oil paintings by St. Paul artist, Kirsten Tradowsky. Earning her BFA from Cleveland Institute of Art and MFA from California College of the Arts, Tradowsky has a long exhibition history in California and now resides in the Twin Cities with her family. Using media references from her family archive, this series of work presents a contemporary understanding of a far-off past. Through painted interpretations of photographs taken by her immigrant grandmother, Annemarie, Tradowsky arrives at a deeper understanding of her life, despite never having met her. Tradowsky’s paintings are known for their color and sweeping, expressive brush strokes. Of her practice, Tradowsky writes:
“Painting is a means of excavation. [...] Whether it is a forgotten family snapshot or a stack of dishes, the objects are reanimated through the act of painting. In the process, lines, light, and details are dramatized and diminished, uncovering new meaning that encourages a dialogue across time.”
Both artists will be present at the opening receptions on March 7, 2026. Lowry Hill Gallery looks forward to celebrating - along with our artists, clients, and friends from across Minneapolis & St. Paul art communities - these debut exhibitions and our future work together.
