Big Brothers Big Sisters 5K

Do you like a morning run or a leisurely walk? Looking for a great reason to be active? Participate in the 3rd Annual BBBS 5K Run/Walk! Enjoy the views and natural beauty that Fort Snelling State Park offers, all while getting in a bit of exercise! The run/walk will start one hour before the picnic at 9:30 a.m., with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. The BBBS 5K Run/Walk will end in the same location as the BBBS Annual Picnic, so all 5K runners and walkers are invited to stay and enjoy the picnic!

MMA Returns to Mystic Lake

August 1st to 1st

Mixed martial arts, the fastest-growing sport in the world, returns to Mystic Lake on Saturday, Aug. 1.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with fights scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. The event will be regulated by the Minnesota Combative Sports Commission. "It's going to be our biggest, best event of the year," said Jeremy Bjornberg of Driller Promotions. "We're beyond excited to be back at Mystic Lake, which is the perfect host for this tremendous event."
Driller's return to Mystic features three title fights and the return of Andre "The Diva" Tieva, who is a Bellator and RFA veteran. Tieva will take on Derrick Mandell in the night's 135-pound main event. Tieva, who is a Minnesota native, will put his 8-1 professional record on the line against the 4-2 Mandell, who also is an RFA veteran.
The night also will feature women's MMA, which is on the rise thanks to UFC superstar Ronda Rousey, who recently graced the cover of Sports Illustrated. Undefeated prospect Jessica Fresh of Iowa will put her 115-pound belt on the line against undefeated Minnesotan Linsey Williams. 
In other title fights, Jeff Latsch squares off against Cameron Gilliam for the 170-pound belt and Richard Rodriguez meets Sean Strube for the 135-pound title. Other local superstars in action on Aug. 1 include Ben Locken, Tye Ferguson, Karter Holthusen, Jahan Galehdari, Colton Pasvogel and Eddy Albrecht.

Vintage Band Festival

The Vintage Band Festival is presenting a one-day event on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015. With musical styles ranging from Civil War to Old Time to Jazz and more, 12 diverse bands from around Minnesota will perform outdoor concerts on Northfield’s Bridge Square starting at 9 a.m. and going until 9 p.m. The event will be held in conjunction with Northfield’s Riverwalk Market Fair in Bridge Square, where arts, crafts, and fresh foods are available. The event is free and open to the public, but donations to VBF are greatly appreciated. Come discover the musical and historical legacy Northfield has to offer!

The Bachelor Farmer Block Party: Kraftskiva!

The Bachelor Farmer, Askov Finlayson, and Marvel Bar will host Kräftskiva!, their summer block party, from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1. 
The fourth annual festival will bring The Bachelor Farmer and Marvel Bar out onto the streets of Minneapolis for the evening – shutting down 2nd Ave North alongside The Bachelor Farmer between Azine Way and North 1st St – for an evening of live music, food, and beverages. 
Kräftskiva! will be better than ever this year, featuring multiple live music performances throughout the night, culminating with local standouts Poliça. Additional performing acts include Ra Ra Riot, Rogue Valley, and DJ Jonathan Ackerman.  
Tickets will go on sale this week for $20, with all proceeds from the event benefiting the Mississippi River Fund. This is the first time the annual block party will benefit a charitable organization, building on the efforts of all three businesses, which have been active supporters of numerous local non-profits since opening in 2011.
