St. Paul, Minn. – June 5, 2018 – Runners in the Twin Cities and across the globe will celebrate Global Running Day on Wednesday, June 6, the day set aside for runners to reaffirm their love of running. Twin Cities In Motion, the organizers of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and a host of running events throughout the year, will again lead Global Running Day activities in the area. Held annually on the first Wednesday in June, Global Running Day is the day when runners everywhere celebrate their passion for running. It is an around-the-world celebration of a sport and activity that’s simple, inexpensive, healthy and fun. The day has proved to be an ideal way for longtime runners to reaffirm their love of running and for beginners to kick off a life-changing commitment.
Twin Cities In Motion is asking area runners to enjoy a run on Wednesday and share the experience using the Global Running Day “Photo Madlibs” photo experience offered by MOTIGO. TCM staff members will deliver gift baskets to local specialty run stores to support their Global Running Day group runs. TCM will also offer hourly giveaways on social media starting at 7 a.m., with prizes including free Brooks® shoes and Twin Cities In Motion race entries.
World-wide, runners are being asked to pledge to run on Global Running Day and add their miles to the global tally. Last year, more than 1.2 million people from 187 countries pledged to run 8.2 million miles on Global Running Day. There’s also an initiative to once again get more than a million children running on Global Running Day, demonstrating that fitness is fun and inspiring kids to embrace running as a way to get moving and stay healthy.
