FIRST AVENUE WEEKLY PRESS RELEASE: Marian Hill, Kind Country and Useful Jenkins, Poppy
Multi-talented duo, Marian Hill, have shifted the classic paradigm of a woman on a stage and a man with a piano to a woman on a mic and a man with a laptop -- and the results are seductive and vivid. A tempting paradox with a blend of blues and bass, acoustic and digital, classic and modern, Marian Hill hit the Palace Theatre with Michl on May 16.
First Avenue, Revival Music Festival, and MJG productions are bringing a very special night of Kind Country and Useful Jenkins to the First Avenue Mainroom on March 10. Joined by The Pistol Whippin Party Penguins and the Stringdusters (Album Release), this night of Minnesota jams cannot be missed.

YouTube enigma Poppy hits The Cedar this Thursday. Those unfamiliar with her work would do well to check out her most popular video “I’m Poppy” (which has garnered 12 million views); NPR describes the video as, “10 minutes of Poppy saying her name over and over again.” The star has over 300 videos, a Streamy Award for Breakthrough Artist, and has just signed a deal for a YouTube Red series—officially making her one of YouTube’s most mainstream personalities. Her first full-length album (Poppy.Computer) “closely follows the themes of her YouTube videos: technology, fame and navigating youth in the Internet age….the album is heavily influenced by the bright colors and happy sounds of Japanese kawaii culture” (NPR).
