City opens new home for Elections and Voter Services

WHAT: Mayor Jacob Frey, Council President Lisa Bender, Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins, Council Member and Elections & Rules Committee Chair Jeremiah Ellison join Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon and others to officially open the City’s new Elections and Voter Services facility.
WHEN: 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4
WHERE: 980 East Hennepin Ave.
MORE: For the first time, all elections operations will be housed under one roof, including early voting, warehouse, mail ballot processing, candidate filing, election judge training and administration.
In addition to the opening ceremony, the media will get to walk through the new Early Vote Center to see where Minneapolis voters will be casting ballots. The next election is the March presidential primary, and early voting for that begins Jan. 17.
Also at the new facility is an exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote and ended the 72-year struggle for woman suffrage. The exhibit, courtesy of the League of Women Voters, features Minnesota's suffrage story and highlights the women who made it happen.
