Bridges over Mississippi River illuminated in observance of Trans Day of Remembrance

Nov. 20, 2019 (MINNEAPOLIS) Tonight the Interstate 35 and Lowry Avenue bridges over the Mississippi River will glow blue, pink and white in observance of Trans Day of Remembrance.
The day memorializes people killed in acts of anti-transgender violence. It was founded in 1999 to honor Rita Hester, a transgender woman murdered in Massachusetts the previous year. In the 20 years since its founding, Trans Day of Remembrance has grown to a worldwide event.
According to a report by Transgender Europe, at least 331 trans and gender-diverse people were murdered worldwide in past year, with 30 of those homicides happening in the U.S.
