SAINT PAUL, Minn. - More than 200 cats from the United States and Canada will compete for the title of "Best Cat" at the Saintly City Cat Club's 40th Annual Championship and Household Pet Cat Show on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 23 - 24.
The show will be held in the Roy Wilkins Exhibition Hall at Saint Paul RiverCentre in downtown Saint Paul. It is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission is only $4 for adults and $3 for seniors (over 65) and children (under 10).
As many as 26 different breeds will be judged in five classes: Kittens, Championship, Premiership, Veterans and Household Pets. Competitors will include the ever popular breeds such as the Maine Cood and Persians, as well as many lesser known breeds such as the Korat, Cornish Rex and Sphynx (hairless cat).
A "King" and "Queen" cat will be caped and crowned from the Household Pet cat division on Sunday afternoon by a special guest.
Each feline finalist will receive a beautiful rosette from the Saintly City Cat Club, Inc. In addition, finalists will receive winner points from the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA), American's largest organization of cat owners and breeders. Points are tallied for regional and national awards at the close of the CFA show season next April.
Judges this year will be Kathy Black from Duncan, Oklahoma, Carol Fogarty from Daytona Beach, Florida, Pam Moser from Gresham, Oregon, Sharon Roy from Manchester, New Hampshire, Teresa Sweeney from Grove City, Ohio, Liz Watson from New Orleans, Louisiana, John Webster from Bakersfield, California, and Beverly Wood from Lincoln, Nebraska.
Saintly City Cat Club, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the health and welfare of all felines and to the education of the public on felines. Established in 1974, it is a member club of the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA).
A portion of profits will be given to Winn Foundation, Cornell Feline Health Center and area Humane Societies.
