Red Bull Crashed Ice

January 19 - 20, 2018

The capital of Minnesota will host the highly anticipated Red Bull Crashed Ice on the frozen banks of the Mississippi River on January 19 - 20, 2018. For the past five freezing-cold winters, Saint Paul has hosted the ice cross downhill competition, with a huge crowd of more than 100,000 people converging under the gaze of the imposing Cathedral of Saint Paul to witness the high-speed action that features skaters competing in four-man heats in a race to the bottom of a long ice track filled with obstacles.

The sport appeals to what Americans like most in sports – a physically challenging, rough, tough sport coupled with high-speed action and agility. With local hero Cameron Naasz, a native of Minnesota, being the first ever back-to-back champion, it promises to be another year of fierce competition and excitement.


January 19 - 21, 2018

TwinsFest will feature interactive activities and behind-the-scenes fan experiences that celebrate Twins baseball and Target Field. As in years past, more than 60 current, former and future Twins players are expected to appear throughout the course of the weekend. Get autographs and photos, stop by the Twins yard sale, go on a self-guided clubhouse tour, visit the Twins boardwalk, or enjoy the TwinsFest Taproom.

The Great Northern

January 25 - February 4, 2018

The Great Northern is here to showcase The North at its wintry best. 10 days of events and programming across Minneapolis and Saint Paul. A new, annual tradition that promotes year-round outdoor activity and provides fun and accessible programming for locals and visitors of all ages. Featuring: Sport, Culinary and Arts programming with a family-friendly focus.

Event leaders from the City of Lakes Loppet Ski Festival, the 130-year-old Saint Paul Winter Carnival, and the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships jointly announced The Great Northern, a collaborative winter festival.

U.S. Pond Hockey Championships

The 13th annual Labatt Blue U.S. Pond Hockey Championships (USPHC) will once again bring hockey the way nature intended it to Lake Nokomis, Minneapolis, MN, January 25-28. The event brings thousands of players and fans together for an incredible weekend of fun and fierce competition.

City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival

January 27 - February 4, 2018

The Loppet Foundation's premier event of the year is the City of Lakes Loppet Festival that draws thousands of participants, hundreds of volunteers, and many more spectators out to the trails of Theodore Wirth Park, and lakes and streets of Uptown Minneapolis for 10 days of fun and competition. With winter events and activities for all ages and abilities, this is as Minnesota as it gets!

Weekend events include: cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skijoring, dogsledding, Kubb, fat tire and ice bike riding, snow sculpture contests and, of course, the Luminary Loppet!

Columbia Sportswear Skate Marathon

February 4, 2018

Participants start at Theodore Wirth Park, ski through woods, over parkways and across lakes to a grand finish before cheering crowds in the Loppet Village in Uptown. Skiers of all ages and abilities will be challenged and thrilled by this beautiful urban course. Go for your best time, or simply enjoy this unique ski experience.

Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival

January 27, 2018

The 17th Annual Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival will take place on the north end of Lake Harriet near the Lake Harriet Band Shell. Kites of all shapes, sizes, colors and themes will fly over frozen lake.

Minnesota Kite Society experts will demonstrate their skills maneuvering spectacular kites throughout the day, and offer their expertise to kite flying enthusiasts and to those who are new to the pastime. Bring your own kite, or buy an inexpensive one at the lake.

NCHC Frozen Faceoff

March 16 - 17, 2018

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) will conduct its 5th annual conference championship, the 2018 NCHC Frozen Faceoff at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The winners of the conference quarterfinals, best of three series on campus host sites, will meet in the NCHC Semifinals with the third-place and championship games to follow.
