The Final Stretch

Meet Minneapolis is one of several business associations that is working closely with the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee in the execution of Super Bowl LII and related activities. Another key group is the mpls downtown council/Downtown Improvement District. Steve Cramer leads these organizations and is deeply involved in curating the downtown experience that more than 1 million visitors will have in late January and early February of 2018. He has kindly shared some updates on his organizations’ preparedness for the big game by having Nicollet Mall ready for the big time.

The renovation of Nicollet is entering the final stretch and it’s on schedule to be complete in November 2017. “This project has been a great team effort and we look forward to seeing it all come into focus as we add new features throughout the summer months,” said Steve Cramer, president of the mpls downtown council and Mpls Downtown Improvement District (MDID). “In the next few months trees will be planted, street lights will be added, furniture and signage will be put in place and most of the new artwork will be installed and previous pieces that have been restored will be returned."

CREATIVE CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED

MDID unveiled a new creative messaging campaign developed by Gabriel deGrood Bendt (GdB) to highlight some of the features of the new Nicollet. Watch for it on billboards and in storefront windows. It started with a nod toward the ongoing construction and tongue-in-cheek slogans alluding to the community’s “patience” for the project. The Mary Tyler Moore statue edition offers the message “We’re going to make it after all.” Future versions highlight features of the new Nicollet, including lighting, seating and public art..
