It usually begins with a murmur. You notice that people keep looking back and around the room. That’s when you hear it for yourself: “Prince just walked in.” It happens a lot here. Local music legends have made their hangouts legendary, and touring artists make it a point to visit these legendary bars.
Not to say the music scene is all about rock and rap. Minnesota Orchestra conductor Osmo Vänskä has earned raves for his incisive conducting and the orchestra's ravishing recordings of Beethoven's symphonies.
But to really get a sense of the local music scene, it's best that you wander into one of the many bars and music venues without knowing anything about the artists. It's a nice little adventure that will be rewarding, no matter where you find yourself. So don’t be surprised if you find yourself tapping your toes and nodding your head through the day; that happens a lot here too.
