Key events bring nearly $25 million in estimated economic impact to Minneapolis

Minneapolis (July 14, 2016) – Minneapolis will welcome 10,000 visitors for four major national conferences at the Minneapolis Convention Center in late July and early August. Altogether, these events will have an estimated economic impact of $25 million on the community.

The events include:

  • American Federation of Teachers 2016 Biennial National Convention – 3,500 attendees – July 17-21
  • International Association of Venue Managers 2016 Annual Conference & Trade Show (VenueConnect) – 2,100 attendees – July 23-26
  • PennWell Corporation 2016 HydroVision International – 4,000 attendees – July 26-29
  • Destination Marketing Association International 2016 Annual Convention – 1,300 attendees – Aug. 1-3

The Minneapolis Convention Center is having another strong year of activity following a year in which the center set a new record for highest annual revenue ever recorded at the facility. Within the city overall, Minneapolis hosted a record 604 meetings and conventions in 2015 that were booked by Meet Minneapolis, and the city’s annual hotel occupancy increased to an all-time record high 74 percent. National conventions are a key driver of business to hotels, restaurants, shopping and attractions in the community.
