The National Association for Catering and Events (NACE) has announced the winner of the prestigious Michel Malecot Culinary Excellence Award, Shane Streitz, Executive Chef of Kelber Catering at the Minneapolis Convention Center. This award recognizes individuals with outstanding achievement in culinary excellence, community and industry involvement, and a commitment to leadership in culinary education, sustainability and social responsibility.

In his nearly 25 years with Kelber Catering, Streitz has paired culinary excellence with meaningful leadership and strengthened both his community and his profession. Streitz believes deeply in the philosophy that culinary excellence is inseparable from teamwork and discipline, and he is an active mentor and leader within and beyond the kitchen.

In his kitchen, Streitz strives for balanced sustainability and social responsibility through his consideration of supply chains, sourcing ethics, and practicality. His commitment to regional suppliers and the localization of food benefits his clients, his local economies, and his environmental impact. He emphasizes efficient production methods through mindful purchasing and preparation, minimizing food waste, and encouraging full utilization of product.

Streitz’s menu design perfectly balances creativity, integrity, and disciplined execution. His integration of seasonal and regional ingredients with contemporary techniques in high-volume cooking results in dishes that visually impress while remaining accessible to diverse audiences. Streitz adapts to culinary trends without chasing novelty, incorporating creative elements practically within his menus, each dish serving a specific purpose. In 2024, Streitz and his team received the National Association for Catering & Events (NACE) Twin Cities Chapter “Best Program of 2024” for their entirely plant-based vegan menu.
