Valerie Plame - The Global Nuclear Threat & My Career in the CIA
Valerie Plame, a former career covert CIA operations officer, worked to protect America’s national security and prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction—in particular, nuclear weapons. During her career with the CIA, she managed top-secret covert programs designed to keep terrorists and rogue nation states from acquiring nuclear weapons.
In 2003, her identity as a CIA officer was leaked in The Washington Post, a political scandal which became known as the “Plame Affair.” She is the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House, which was made into a film starring Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. She has also published the well-received spy thrillers Blowback and Burned.
Valerie will speak at The Woman’s Club on the global nuclear threat—from its origins in history to disarmament attempts and looking at where we are today and why it matters. She will also speak about her career in the CIA, including how she was recruited, her intensive special training, and the impact of her name being leaked.
