Bruce Nygren: Flights of Fantasy
Bruce Nygren (American, b. 1947, Minneapolis, MN) has been living and working in the Twin Cities for over 50 years. A graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, he initially began his career as a plein air artist. His compositions gradually developed into what has become his body of signature works: whimsical still lifes and fantastical landscapes composed of naturalistically rendered vintage toys, anthropomorphic animals and floating objects. Though often described as a surrealist, Nygren prefers the term fantasy to describe his work. Influenced by artists George Inness, Winslow Homer and N.C. Wyeth, Nygren creates visual poems of unlikely images coexisting within believable, naturalistic environments.
Bruce Nygren has a strong exhibition record locally and internationally and his work is found in private and corporate collections including 3M, Cargill, Arthur Andersen & Company, Honeywell and Norwest Bank. He has taught workshops in the Apostle Islands and Maui and spent time as an artist in residence in Paris and the Black Hills.
