Art lovers, history buffs and science hounds rejoice! Minneapolis boasts one of the most thriving museum communities in the
country, with more than 57 museums in the Minneapolis area.
Art, history and science have their places in numerous art museums, scientific institutions, historical museums and countless
historical sites.
A unique must-see is The Museum of Russian Art, the only North American
museum dedicated solely to Russian art from the Soviet period. Due to
his effort in creating this art space, the museum's founder has received
the Order of Friendship Award from the Ambassador of
the Russian Federation.
The Walker Art Museum, hailed by Newsweek as "possibly
the best contemporary art museum in the country," is one of the
most visited contemporary art museums in the nation and doubled its size
with a 2005 expansion. Also adding space is the well-loved Minneapolis
Institute of Arts. The Weisman Art Museum, with its gleaming Frank Gehry-designed
metal-clad structure, has become an area icon.
Don't miss the premiere of Frida Kahlo's Centennial Exhibition, premiering in the U.S. at the Walker Art Center October 27, 2007 through January 20, 2008. Explore the symbolism and internal expression of this revolutionary Mexican artist through her self-portraits as well as never-before-seen photographs.
