Best Minneapolis Running Events This Summer

Color your summer by signing up for one of the many organized runs and race events in Minneapolis! Whether you’re headed for the big 26.2 miles or you only signed up for that 5K for the beer, it’s no doubt that Minneapolis has a race for every type of runner. Get competitive and shoot for your best time with the Minnesota Half Marathon, or party it up and forget you’re even exercising at the Bubble Run. What better way to explore Minneapolis, have a blast, and get moving than by participating in one of our awesome running events. While almost every weekend is filled with some sort of marathon or 5K, we’ve picked our favorites that we think you’ll enjoy too.

Running Events this Summer 

Run For Beer Brewery Running Series – all summer

So what? If beer is your motivation to lace up those shoes, then this series is for you! It’s the perfect chance to try new breweries, and visit your tried and trues while getting in some exercise and meeting fellow beer-lovers. Start at a local brewery, head out for a 5K, and return for a cold one.

TC Pride Rainbow Run - June 25

So what? Celebrate Twin Cities Pride and the GLBTQ community in this Rainbow Run 5K! End in Loring Park in time to watch the Pride parade and head to the Beer Garden after to redeem your free beer! 

How far I'm I Running? 5K (3.1 miles)

What you’ll get: A free beer at the Pride Beer Garden

 

Red, White & Boom! TC Half Marathon & Relay - July 4

So what? Get ready to celebrate the 4th of July with Red, White & Boom! Choose between the half marathon and relay. Be sure to hang out after the race at the picnic! Bring the whole family for a slip n’ slide, lawn games, and live music. 

How far I'm I running? Half Marathon (13.1 miles), Relay (6.5 miles) or 5K (3.1 miles)

What you’ll get: Post-race family picnic with food and activities

 

Life Time Tri - July 8

So what? This is what you’ve been training for. Swim, bike and run in the Life Time Tri and show everyone what you’re made of! Start at Lake Nokomis for the swim, bike between Minneapolis and St. Paul and finish with a run around Lake Nokomis. Stick around afterwards for music, beer, and healthy eats.

How far I'm I running? 0.93-mile swim, 24.8-mile bike, 6.2-mile run

The Color Run - July 9

So what? More of a party than a race, the Color Run will make you forget you’re even exercising. Get covered in color at each kilometer, run through the Foam Zone, dance to awesome music, take your picture with giant unicorns, paint your hopes and desires on the Dream Wall, and have a blast all while making your way through the course!

What you’ll get: A giant running party!

 

Life Time Torchlight - July 19

So what? Put a new twist on your night out! Head to the Life Time Torchlight for a night run with a party to follow. Start out at Loring Park for a parade and family fun night. Head out at 7:30 p.m. for the race, and meet at St. Anthony & Main Park afterwards for music, entertainment and complimentary drinks!

How far I'm I running? 5K (3.1 miles)

What you’ll get: Post-race party and complimentary refreshments

 

Greenway Glow - July 29

So what? Raise funds for the Greenway at the Greenway Glow 5K! Run or walk the course, but make sure to stay for the after party. You’ll get free Taco Cat tacos, beer or kombucha from Eastlake Brewery, ice cream from Freewheel Bike, snacks from Juiced Nutrition, glow lights and even more!

How far I'm I running? 5K (3.1 miles)

What you’ll get: Free Taco Cat tacos (bike-only taco delivery service - human power!), beer or kombucha from Eastlake Brewery, ice cream from the Café at Freewheel Bike, protein and electrolyte snacks from Juiced Nutrition, dessert and beverages at Vine Arts Center, and glow lights

So what? A foam party disguised as exercise, the Bubble Run isn’t your typical race. Run, walk, dance and party your way through a course of bubbles! Forget about competition, the Bubble Run is all about having some fun outside and getting your feet moving in a unique way!

What you’ll get: Bubble Run T-shirt, runner headband, temporary tattoo

 

Minnesota Half Marathon - August 5

So what? Whatever your fitness level, there’s a way to participate. Plus, by signing up for the Minnesota Half Marathon you’ll be supporting charities by generating revenue for donation. Do something good for yourself and the community!

How far I'm I running? Half marathon (13.1 miles) or 5K (3.1 miles) or kids run

City of Lakes Half Marathon - August 5

So what? Register to secure your spot! Only 1,500 entrants will be accepted to run the 2017 City of Lakes Half Marathon. Check out incredible views of Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun, and finish up at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. It’s one of the prettiest half marathons around!

How far I'm I running? Half Marathon (13.1 miles)

Utepils Brewing Beer Run – August 6

So what? Walk, jog or run –no one cares!- your way through the Bryn Mawr neighborhood and surrounding area all for a good cause. Enjoy beautiful views of Basset Creek, local parks and streetscapes while you make your way to the finish line. Beginning and ending at the new Utepils Brewery, beer lovers and running enthusiasts can experience the best of both worlds while raising money for local non-profits! Receive free beer and swag while enjoying live music and browsing local food truck menus.

How far am I running?  5K (3.1 miles)

What you’ll get: A free Utepils craft brew, a collectors pint glass or seasonal swag and live music

Surly Beer Run - August 27

So what? Add some exercise to your day while giving back to the local community. 10% of all proceeds goes directly to Surly Gives a Damn, which provides volunteer and charitable donation support to community-based partners. Begin your run at Surly Brewery, make your way through the surrounding streets and return back to the iconic brewery for free beer and entertainment!

How far am I running? 5K (3.1 miles)

What you’ll get: A free Surly craft brew, a collector’s pint glass or seasonal swag, live music –plus other goodies and giveaways

Root Beer Run - September 3

So what? Be active, have fun, and give back. Kids and adults of all ages can participate in a half or full 1 mile run along the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis. Located at Boom Island Park, this “un-race” is perfect for families of all sizes. Proceeds will go to local nonprofits, People for Parks and Red Shoe Society.

How far am I running? ½ mile or 1 mile

What you’ll get: A free root beer in a commemorative event mug

Bauhaus Brew Labs Beer Run - September 16

So what? Go at your own pace for Bauhaus Brew Labs fun-run. Starting and ending at the brewery, participants will get to breeze through the beauty of Northeast and enjoy a free beer, live music, food trucks and other local vendors at the finish line. A portion of all proceeds go to benefit Minnesota nonprofits.

How far am I running? 5K (3.1 miles)

What you’ll get: Free Bauhaus craft beer, a collector’s pint glass or seasonal swag item and live music

Twin Cities Orthopedics Vikings 5K - September 16

 

 

So what? Experience what it’s like to be a Minnesota Viking as you storm the field and finish on the 50-yard line of the U.S. Bank Stadium. Post-race, runners have the opportunity to tour the Vikings locker room and receive autographs from Vikings Legends.

How far am I running? 5K (3.1 miles) or 50-yard dash (Kids Run)

What you’ll get: TCO Vikings 5K Custom T-Shirt for 5K participants, commemorative photo, post-race food and beverages, 2017 participation medal, a chance to win Vikings door prizes, Tour of the Vikings Locker Room at U.S. Bank Stadium, 400 Vikings rewards points

Surly Trail Loppet Half Marathon - September 23

So what? Head to the beautiful Theodore Wirth Park and run alongside ponds and lakes, bogs, wildflower gardens, wooded trails, and even get a glimpse of the downtown skyline. Run the half marathon, 5K or relay. Finish up with a party in the park! Grab a Surly beer and listen to some live music while you cool down from your great feat!
