The historic Lee and Rose Warner Coliseum is located on the Minnesota State Fair grounds and can be seen from the University campus. Coliseum has seating for 5,250 people and is capable of hosting an NCAA post-season contest. The rink features an underground refrigeration system. In addition to being the hockey home of the Pipers, the Coliseum hosts Minnesota State High School League section tournament games and is a municipal ice rink for many local leagues. When the ice is thawed, it is home to numerous horse and cattle shows throughout the year. Historically, the St. Paul Hippodrome - the predecessor to the Coliseum - was home to the St. Paul Athletic Club. The original Hippodrome was built in 1906 for the mighty St. Paul Athletic Club hockey team. That club went to the national finals in 1922 and 1923. The Hippodrome was torn down in 1942 prior to the Coliseum being erected in 1951.
