Insider Guide: Lisa Goodman

With infinite knowledge of Minneapolis, Ward 7 Council Member Lisa Goodman knows the best spots to see and be seen.

Great Places in Minneapolis to go with your dog:

  • Loring Park Dog Park. The most beautiful urban dog park in the country. Great location, view, ground cover and seating for both people and dogs.
  • Urbanimal pet shop. A great selection of toys, collars, leashes and treats to bring home for your pet.
  • Bar Lurcat. A spectacular outdoor patio which makes for a great place for dogs to dine with their owners. Great view of Loring Park, the Walker Art Center and downtown. My dog loves the French Fries.
  • Chambers and Ivy Hotels. Both don't only allow but encourage and accommodate dogs overnight. They even provide special dog beds and treats.
  • Downtown Dogs. If you need dog daycare, boarding or grooming while on a longer visit, this is the best place in town. It has 15,000 plus square feet of play space, so much space for so much fun. A rest hour may be required for tired pups.

A few more of Lisa's favorites:

Favorite restaurant: Nick and Eddie on Loring Park. Great food, amazing space, and proud, local chefs and owners.

Favorite place to shop for clothes and accessories: I will go out of my way for Judith McGrann and Friends, the best shop for clothing, gifts and accessories in town (St. Louis Park).

Idea of a night on the town: Drinks at the Chambers Gorilla Bar, dinner at Eli's on Hennepin and some jazz at the Dakota.

Favorite characteristic about the people or culture of Minneapolis: The strong feelings about the importance of our built and natural environment makes Minneapolis a very special city.

Favorite annual event: Gay Pride Parade and Festival

Favorite Minnesota musician or performer: Connie Evingson, an amazing local jazz singer and musician.

Favorite neighborhood: Loring Park. One of the most wonderful inner-city downtown neighborhoods. The very diverse residents, high density housing choices, local bars and restaurants and beautiful park make this among the best neighborhoods in town.
