MINNEAPOLIS—Jesse Cook, the Juno Award-winning Canadian guitarist admired for his fiery rumba flamenco virtuosity since bursting onto the world music scene with 1995’s “Tempest,” performs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Pantages Theatre. A versatile three-time winner of the Canadian Guitarist of the Year Award whose work has been featured on “Sex and the City,” he incorporates elements of Brazilian, jazz and world music into his performance. Jesse Cook, a Toronto resident born in Paris, signed with Narada Records in 1994 and blended elements of jazz, new age and various global styles for his debut record, “Tempest.” One year later, “Gravity” hit the Top Ten on the new age charts and he earned a Juno Award in 2000 for Best Instrumental Album for his fourth album “Free Fall.” In 2008, “Frontiers” hit number one on the Billboard top new age album chart and he won the silver medal in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s prestigious Players’ Choice Awards behind the legendary Paco De Lucia.
In all, Cook has released nine records including his latest, 2012’s “The Blue Guitar Sessions.” This newest effort includes such guests as cellist Amy Laing on “Broken Moon,” accordionist Tom Szczesniak on “Witching Hour” and vocalist Emma-Lee on “I Put a Spell On You.” His 2012 television special “Jesse Cook, Live in Concert” was broadcast on PBS stations around the country and his music has been featured on “The Tonight Show.” After playing worldwide in 2012, he continues to tour the U.S. in 2013, visiting cities including Orlando, Dallas and Seattle.
An Evening with Jesse Cook is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Pantages Theatre (710 Hennepin Avenue, Mpls., 55403).
