December 13 - 18
Fun Home, the 2015 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical, debuts at the Orpheum Theatre for one week December 13-18. Fun Home, is based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel starring form Miss America and LGBT champion, Kate Shindle. This groundbreaking and uplifting new musical explores and unravels the many mysteries of childhood and seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.
January 10 - 15
Grammy Award-nominee and R&B superstar Deborah Cox will belt out the tunes in The Bodyguard which launches its U.S. National Tour next year January 10-15, 2017 at the Orpheum Theatre. The cast will sing the steller soundtrack from the film, including one of the biggest selling tunes of all time, "I Will Always Love You."
Launch day on December 8
This is the seventh round of Made Here in downtown Minneapolis. The next round of Made here will present Minnesota artists' interpretations of spirit. Featuring artwork by more than 75 Minnesota artists in storefront windows located on Hennepin Avenue on the blocks of Fifth to Tenth Streets.
Since its inception:
- A total of nine commercial spaces have been leased
- Made Here artists have sold more than $20,000 of artwork
- Featured works by approximately 396 local artists
- 265 storefront windows have been installed throughout 94 city blocks
SPIRIT, Made Here launches with a free public celebration on Thursday, December 3 from 5-8pm with free tours, music, food and more at City Center.
Made Here, a project of Hennepin Theatre Trust, is a walkable urban art experience that connects people to local art and artists in the West Downtown Minneapolis Cultural District.
First Thursday of the month from 5-9pm
Northeast Minneapolis is home to "First Thursdays in the Arts District." That's where sculptors, painters, photographers, jewelers and lots of other artists open up their studios in the Northrup King building.
This is a great event, whether you're actually in the market to buy something, or you just want to get out and see some unique local art. As the name suggests, it's held on the first Thursday of the month from 5-9pm
November 11- 13
U.S. Bank Stadium is hosting this awesome event, so if you haven't been in there yet, it's a great opportunity to check it out. There will be hundreds of booths around the concourse that will feature the latest trends in seasonal gifts, clothing, decor, food and more.
U.S. Bank Stadium is also doing some pretty neat theme nights as well. Friday, November 11 is Girls Night Out, with music, drinks and giveaways. Saturday is Country Girl Night!
November 12 - April 9
Get ready for a stunning installation at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum this winter! The evening exhibition, Bruce Munro: Winter Light at the Arboretum starts November 12 and runs until April 9. The arboretum will glow at night, thanks to internationally acclaimed British artist, Bruce Munro. His work has been displayed all around the world, and we can't wait to get a first-hand look at how he'll use light to transform the Arboretum after dark.
