The hustle and bustle of downtown Minneapolis isn’t for everyone. Which is fine, because there’s a lot of cool stuff to do in the Twin Cities outside of downtown. On that same note, there’s really great places to stay, too. The Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West is one of those hotels that makes you question the existence of every hotel you’ve ever stayed in because it’s that good. They’ve got award-winning dining, room service, complimentary Internet access, and even their own athletic club.
Remember Bill Nye the Science Guy and the Magical School Bus? It instilled that early sense of “I can be the best scientist in the world” feeling in us all. That’s what the Science Museum of Minnesota can do, too. This is THE science museum in Minnesota to visit (hence the name), and their wide array of hands-on activities can keep you there for hours. You can even make your own tornado! You’ll rule the land!
“Simply & perfectly prepared scratch cooking.” That’s how Mufuletta describe themselves, and, not surprisingly, they’re spot-on. Every day, their favorite farmers deliver fresh bounty to their door, and mere hours later it reaches full bloom in a dizzying array of seasonal dishes. So enjoy the serenity of their patio or the quiet of a booth in the back. You’ll need it to balance the riot of flavors on Chef Matthew Ellison’s menu.
Yes, it might be cold outside. However, some places operate magnificently in the slight chill, and the Como Zoo Park and Conservatory is one of those places. Not only is it a FREE zoo (donations happily accepted, of course), but the internal conservatory is strikingly beautiful. The colors and smells you’ll experience will absolutely blow you away.
Great food. Great drinks. Great atmosphere. That’s what the Bulldog in Saint Paul will offer time and time again. They serve straight-up American bar cuisine, and it’ll be hard to order just one thing. If you need to end your night on a full stomach, this is your place.
