Holiday Outdoor Adventure Itinerary

Morning

Fact (maybe): Half of being an athlete is getting a great night’s sleep before a game. You know how you can get that same great night sleep? Stay down at The Depot Minneapolis. Seriously, their beds just absorb you, and the downtown location is fantastic. Before you head out, though, start the morning off right with a serious breakfast at Hell’s Kitchen. This fun restaurant is known for their great breakfast and almost everything is homemade, including ketchup, mustard, tomato juice, iced tea, hot cocoa, and of course their raved-about peanut butter.

Mid-Morning

If you’re looking for the beautiful, holiday-in-nature scene you usually see on Hallmark cards, then the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is where you’ve got to start the day’s activities. Open 363 days a year, the Arboretum features more than 1,000 acres of magnificent gardens, model landscapes, and natural areas-from woodlands and wetlands to prairie-with extensive collections of northern-hardy plants. Tour the Arboretum on 12.5 miles of garden paths and hiking trails. Walk the close gardens and bike, walk or drive Three-Mile Drive to see more gardens and collections.

Lunch

Make your way downtown and stop at the Good Earth in Edina for a hearty, healthy lunch where the chefs are "fanatical about freshness and passionate about purity." They’re so in-touch with the Earth, they literally cook in harmony with the seasons. And why they’re fanatical about freshness and passionate about purity. They’re partial to local growers and organic suppliers, anti-factory farming, hormones and antibiotics, meaning you’re getting the down-to-earth taste mother nature intended.

Afternoon

After all that walking at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, your feet might need a rest. No worries. You can still be outside and kick your feet up. Rest your feet and tour the city on horse and buggy. Take the Grand City Tour from the Hitching Company and see iconic sites like the Guthrie Theater, Historic Nicollet Island, and the Mill City Museum.

Dinner

Not ready to go inside but want to warm up? Head to the rooftop at SEVEN Sushi and Steakhouse. This place is hopping year round and is warmed in the holidays with a heated tent. They’ve got killer gourmet food, and they give off that swanky, “This is where the beautiful people congregate”-type of feel. See and be seen over at SEVEN.

Evening

When you're done, head back over to The Depot Hotel to ice skate in their enchanting skating rink. There’s nothing more serene than strapping on some skates and gliding around the ice as the holiday scene envelopes you and your significant other. Or, if you aren’t exactly Wayne Gretzky with skates, you can laugh your way to shakily and awkwardly “maneuvering” around the rink and laughing about it later (just like in all the rom-com movies!). Either way, it’s a great way to cap off the night, especially when it’s only steps from your hotel room.
