Downtown Holidays

Brilliant lights, glistening snow and festive events. During the holiday season, Minneapolis shines. Let us guide you through a weekend of merriment.

DAY 1

Afternoon
Arrive in Minneapolis and check in to a downtown hotel, where accommodations are plentiful and everything is within walking distance. Afterwards, strengthen your legs by walking part of our eight miles of glass-enclosed skyways – there's great holiday shopping at every turn.

Evening
Sample the organic cuisine at Spoonriver. Then, toast to a holiday tradition and see A Christmas Carol across the street at the newly-expanded Guthrie Theater. Or, have a bite while you take in Another Night Before Christmas, this year's annual holiday revue at the nation's largest dinner theater, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.

DAY 2

Morning
Grab some breakfast at a "damn good" restaurant, Hell's Kitchen, voted "Best Breakfast in America" by National Public Radio. Then, be a Swede for a day and tour Minneapolis' only "castle" at the historic American Swedish Institute. Rooms inside are decorated in holiday themes of all the Scandinavian countries.

Afternoon
Find your inner child and experience A Day in the Life of an Elf at Macy's Santaland, at the Macy's 8th Floor Holiday Auditorium Show downtown. Afterwards, enjoy more holiday shopping or relax over a cup of hot tea before getting something more substantial to eat at the Mission, Firelake or McCormick and Schmicks.

Evening
Watch the Target Holidazzle parade in the comfort of a heated VIP area, featuring reserved seats and hot chocolate. The parade runs Wednesday through Sunday evenings, from Thanksgiving to Christmas. After your parade, continue to see the city sparking on a Holiday Lights Tour.

DAY 3

Morning
Enjoy the home-style cooking of Keys Café in the Foshay Tower, the first skyscraper built west of the Mississippi River. Then, tour the newly expanded, Michael Graves-designed Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the festive annual exhibit in which decorate their period rooms for the holidays.
