Minneapolis Ranked the Nation’s Best City for Recreation
NerdWallet considers the city’s recreation options and amount of parkland
San Francisco, CA (August 19, 2013) – NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, has compiled a list of the best cities for recreational activities – and Minneapolis is number one.
As obesity and other health-related concerns have increased over the past few years, exercise and personal health have become more important to many people. To help people find the places where they can exercise and stay healthy, NerdWallet took a look at the cities with the most amount of parkland and the largest number of playgrounds, recreation centers, and senior centers.
NerdWallet ranked Minneapolis as the top city out of 95 cities after reviewing the city’s recreational offerings. Minneapolis boasts 244.4 recreational facilities per 100,000 residents, including an indoor ice skating rink and six skate parks. Nearly 15 percent of the city is parkland, providing plenty of outdoors nature time for residents at places such as Fort Snelling State Park. There are also 2.9 playgrounds for every 10,000 residents, as well as 2.6 recreation and senior centers for every 20,000 residents, offering a variety of different recreational options.
“Minneapolis offers so many recreational activities for its residents, whether you prefer to be active inside or outside,” said NerdWallet analyst Divya Raghavan. “From disc golf courses to archery facilities, Minneapolis has something for everyone.”
St. Paul also garnered its own spot on the list, coming in at number three, right after Madison, Wis. See the full study here.
