Mission Theatre Company’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream brings Enchantment, Original Music and a New Twist to a Classic Story at the Gremlin Theater

March 14, 2013 - Boy loves Girl. Girl is engaged to another against her will (Dad’s a jerk). They run away to a fairy-infested wood, their two besties hot on their heels. Hilarious antics with a bumbling troupe of actors and a misguided ass ensue.

So you think you know this story?

Come frolic in the woods with some humans who are taking themselves way. too. seriously.

Mission Theatre Company’s highly physical, energetic production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, under the direction of Penelope Parsons-Lord, delves deep into Shakespeare’s text and revels in his language at play. You’ll be surprised, enchanted, and maybe even a little delightfully frightened as this ageless story is told afresh. It’s a breathtaking romp that will have you anticipating our next move, especially if you think you already know it. Join us at the theatre and experience this ancient story the way it was meant to be told!

Local indie rockers Joe Gamble (Enemy Planes) and Al Church (Clustercuss & Al Church and State) team up to create an original score for MTC’s production. Gamble says, “It's refreshing to change gears. Rather than creating music for an album or concert, this is an opportunity to react to a different medium…to interpret the emotion and delivery of live theater and help shape a story. It requires a fundamental change in philosophy. The goal for this project is to be an extension of the scene, another dimension of the landscape. Our job is to help move the audience without distracting from the story - it's a great exercise in being discrete while remaining relevant.”
