Mayor Rybak Signs Minneapolis’ Approval of Stadium
Work of putting people to work now begins
May 25, 2012 (MINNEAPOLIS) — Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak this afternoon signed the City Council action that passed earlier today to grant local approval to the State legislation that will build a new stadium in downtown Minneapolis. The legislation also gives the City of Minneapolis the resources and flexibility for the first time to ensure the competitive future of two other important City-owned assets, the Minneapolis Convention Center and the Target Center, and to meet other economic-development and infrastructure needs.
The stadium bill, which Governor Mark Dayton signed into law on May 14, required Minneapolis’ approval within 30 days.
“We have finally put behind us one of the longest and toughest debates we’ve ever had on one of our state’s longest-standing and toughest issues,” Mayor Rybak said. “We have now put in front of us the opportunity to work together to get thousands of people into good, much-needed jobs and make sure that downtown Minneapolis remains Minnesota’s economic engine for the next generation.”
